Acupuncture is largely a practice that is regarded as a form of alternative treatment, typically employed as holistic care. Many different studies have been done to identify the benefits of acupuncture. Although each person is expected to experience different results with this kind of treatment, acupuncture is applied for many purposes. In fact, among the most common uses for this is to help sufferers of chronic pain.

It is standard for the process to be done in multiple sessions. Sometimes this treatment will involve up to twelve sessions with an acupuncturist. The sessions may last for up to 30 minutes.

People who have this done in a professional setting will undergo other tests and exams as part of the assessment process. This is done to determine the exact condition and needs of the patient. During the session, a patient may be asked to lie facing up or down, or to the side. Position will be based on the placement of the needles. The needles that are used are single use, disposable and sterile.

Patients will feel needles as they are inserted, but it should not hurt. Once the needles have reached the correct depth, patients may feel a deep aching in the area of insertion. In some cases, the needles are electronically stimulated or heated before insertion. Once they have been placed, they will remain there for approximately 20 minutes.

There are so many perceived benefits of this particular treatment. This therapy is known for helping people ease chronic back pain, which is a problem that many live with. Likewise, this therapy is thought to boost medication effectiveness. It may be beneficial at cutting the total dosage of anxiety medications an individual may require, allowing for more positive changes and a reduction in side effects of the medicine.

The process can help those who have heartburn and indigestion, especially pregnant females. It is also used for those who have cancer and are going through radiation therapy. Dry mouth and nausea are two common side effects of people undergoing radiation therapy on the neck and head, and this kind of treatment is believed to alter the perception of such effects.

Therapy of this kind can reduce headaches that are persistent. Tension headaches and migraines are all too common in the modern day. Regular therapy of this kind is known to reduce and prevent problems. There is not much information available on how effective this is for those with obesity. Nonetheless, some evidence suggests that this can be effective for weight loss.

Acupuncture is a treatment that is commonly used in the modern day and age. It is usually applied as a form of combination care, which means that it is one of multiple treatments applied at once to heal a patient. When carried out properly, there are not many side effects. This treatment can be used to relieve chronic pain, as well as other medical ailments. The benefits of acupuncture will vary by person and usually more than one session is recommended before effects become noticeable.
