Now on the top of the list of requirements would be none other than the bachelors degree in a pre med course. This course would usually be around four years before one can graduate.
Now when he is in his pre med course, he will be paying a lot of attention to his science subjects especially biology, anatomy, organic chemistry, and inorganic chemistry as this will be very important in med school. Also, he will have to learn all about the psychological aspect of sleeping disorders as well. Do take note that he will be making use of all of these subjects later on when he is in med school and is specializing in sleep medicine.

During his first three years in med school, he will first be taking up a residency training program wherein he will be learning how to work in a hospital. A team of doctors will be the teachers of these students and will teach them how to approach patients and also how to cure them of sleep illnesses. This is done so that once they graduate, they will already know what it is like to be in a hospital or clinic.
While the first three years would be residency training, the remaining years would be an internship. This means that one would help an actual doctor in the hospital. The doctor will be somewhat of a mentor who will guide the interns.
Now after he has finished med school, then he would have to take an exam in order to practice. He has to first take up an internal medicine exam that is issued by the government. In order to take this exam, he has to provide proof that he is a graduate and that he underwent his on the job training.
After he passes that test, he has to take another test that would be able to grant him his license. This is known as the sleep medicine certification exam and would decide his fate as a licensed practitioner. If he would pass this test, then he would be able to practice in the field.
