Teaching: Like nurses, teachers will always be needed. The pay scale for teachers depends on the town or city in which they are working, whether they are employed with a public school, private school, or charter school, and how much education the teacher has. For instance, teachers with master's degrees are paid higher than teachers with bachelor's degrees. If you stay in the same position, your pay will increase, and most schools and districts offer decent benefits.
If you want to be in the classroom immediately, there are a couple of options. One is substitute teaching. This requires the equivalent of an associate's degree rather than a bachelor's. Subbing appeals to many people because you do not have to write lesson plans, and can choose which days you work and which days you do not.
Paraprofessionals also work in the classroom without needing a teaching degree or certification. They provide assistance to certified teachers, often working with individual students in a special education program.
In a similar manner, a paralegal is able to provide some of the services that a lawyer provides, but not the full spectrum. Paralegals have less schooling than the eight years required for lawyers, and they are not required to take the bar examination.
